It’s with a grateful heart that I can report that our annual Friendraising event for Hagar’s Choice turned out wonderfully!
Our Friendraising events are about sharing real moments of hope and in the beautiful setting of Weltevreden Estate, we shared more than just delicious treats and friendship. We heard an incredibly powerful testimony from Donna Kennedy-Meyer and shed heartfelt tears when we were confronted with the realities that the Campher family from Hagar’s Choice face.
An inspiring family & moment
It was lovely to see the Campher family again and the same little angelic faces that we met last year accompanied them. What struck me most was how happy these children were. As they were running around, smiling and laughing, I couldn’t help but be in awe of the wonderful work this family does. These children come from such harsh circumstances and not one of them showed signs of sadness or pity. Although we couldn’t really know what goes on deep inside their little hearts, one thing is certain, this family is doing a great job of providing ministy to babies and children in need of safety care. It is clear on their little faces and in the way they interact with others that they feel safe and loved.
In addition to helping these children deal with their past traumas, the family itself also faces its own obstacles. They themselves could almost not attend the event, because their only means of transport broke down a few days before. Thank goodness for Garth from Tilling Tours, who at 9pm on Friday evening, confirmed that he would help with transport. Garth remembered me from a positive Facebook review that I gave for his business 5 years ago and immediately offered to help (what a wonderful reminder that no act of kindness ever goes unnoticed).
The power of friendship
I was once again reminded of the power of true friendship and how much I treasure the people who’ve crossed my path over the past few years. I’m in awe of my friends who went out of their way to support me and pray for me leading up to the event, helping with sponsorships, gift vouchers, ticket sales, wherever and however they could and making sure that I was okay, too. It is lovely to know that I have a group of strong and kind women supporting and encouraging me.
Every time I host these events I walk away feeling so thankful. Meeting new people, hearing powerful testimonies and collaborating with women to make a difference is such a rewarding experience and if it wasn’t for Hagar’s Choice I wouldn’t have been able to do it to such an extent. A special thanks to Hagar’s Choice, who is blessing those who cross their path with their selfless and loving hearts.
Thank you to every single supplier and guest – you were all a godsend. From the delicious plant-based catering by All Things Good and the lovely vegan cake from Inke Cake Design (oh my goodness!) to the gluten-free sweet treats from Blush Baked and the picture-perfect décor by Event Architect as well as the stunning centerpieces from XOXO pottery designs, thank you, it all just came together so beautifully. 8 February 2020 turned out to be exactly how I envisioned it – a wholesome morning shared with kind and graceful women.
Last but not least, I’d like to give a special mention to my dearest husband who’s been supporting this initiative from the start. I could not have done it without you!
