If there’s one thing that lockdown taught me and many others, it was the importance…
Cooking and prepping healthy food for a family with kids of different ages can be such a daunting task! That’s why I’m so excited to share one of my secret mom-hacks with you. I absolutely love Yay! Little Foods and I often use their services for my little one.
I met the owner, Bridgette Wirth, about 12 years ago and I can’t think of a more trustworthy person to get our kiddies meals from. She cares as much for the environment and sourcing sustainably as I do, which makes buying from her such an obvious choice. She only uses fresh, organic ingredients, as well as free-range or pasture-reared meat and dairy sources that are good for little bodies and our planet.
Bridgette’s the real deal and does nothing half-hearted. She’s the type of person who inspects all the ingredients herself and does the kind of research only private investigators could match. She doesn’t just wing it and when it comes to nutrition, she’s my go-to gal.
With a two and a half-year-old and a baby on the way I just can’t think of a better option than Yay! Little Foods to help me out when my hands are bound to get full. So, you can imagine my delight when I heard about her starting The Little Hampton Food Company that caters for adults now, too.
Here’s a bit more about Bridgette’s two companies.
Yay! Little Foods
Bridgette started Yay! Little Foods when she became frustrated by the limited choices in baby food when her son started on solids. She struggled to find options that were not only nutritionally balanced, but also free of any additives.
“There was nothing available that ticked ALL the boxes – 100% organic, seasonal, had a great taste variety (so important for little eaters). And all the baby foods I came across were packaged in plastic or those awful tetrapak-style squishy containers. I resorted to making almost all his food myself,” she says.
She started sourcing certified organic suppliers and experimenting with exciting meals for little ones. While she was making wholesome meals for her own kids, she started a business providing food that’s 100% organic, seasonal and nutritious in 100% biodegradable sugarcane pulp packaging.
The Little Hampton Food Co.
When Bridgette started getting requests for adult-sized meals with the same fundamental focus, she started The Little Hampton Food Co. Speaking from experience, parents really do enjoy her meals, too ☺.
The Little Hampton Food Co. is named after their new home in Boulders Beach (they recently moved from Stellenbosch) and is focused mainly on creating nutritious and delicious dishes for people over 65. Although they can be enjoyed by all adults, the idea is based on the need identified by elderly people who can’t cook for themselves, or who are tired of the limited choices in supermarkets.
For both businesses, Bridgette creates a seasonal menu that changes every three months and offers a variety of delicious meal options made with locally-sourced, organic ingredients. I love supporting this small business, because by supporting her, I support local, organic producers that offer better quality meals for my family. Plus, we’re doing our bit for the environment.
Happy eating dear friends!
That’s it from me,
