Health Coaching

In a few of my recent blog posts I’ve been referring to myself as a “Certified Health Coach” and some of you’ve been asking what it’s all about. In early 2019, I qualified from the Institute of Integrative Nutrition in New York as a Health Coach.

How did this come my way? Well, during my first pregnancy in 2017, I experienced tremendous health benefits after making a few different health and lifestyle choices. Often, the media, and women in general, portray pregnancy as a period of feeling unwell, excessive weight gain and they tend to focus on the negative experiences women have during this time. So, I couldn’t help but look into the effects of nutrition as a whole after my own experience was rather different.

Other than severe nausea during my first trimester in my first pregnancy, I really enjoy being pregnant and although I gained a healthy amount of weight then and now (I’m writing this during my second pregnancy), I never felt/feel uncomfortable or uneasy. If anything, my gut health is more balanced than ever and my skin, nails and hair look their best. I’ve also been able to exercise during both my pregnancies (up until 32 weeks) and every so often someone asks me: “how do you do it?”

I can honestly ascribe this to what I learned during my studies at Integrative Nutrition. I gained such invaluable knowledge about making healthier food choices and making simple, yet effective lifestyle changes for the benefit of my own, and my family’s health.

I believe knowledge is power and often find that women just don’t know about the simple and effective changes they could make to improve their overall wellbeing. That’s what led me to help those who also need guidance and have decided to share my positive experience with you if you need support. I’ve aligned my health coaching services with The Stellenbosch Mom’s vision and mission to be an inspirational guide to mothers and will share some of my knowledge with you on the blog under my new Health Coach section.

I’m so excited to start actively Health Coaching in August, when my maternity leave is over and I can officially open my practice. I’ve curated a beautiful and safe studio space in Stellenbosch that’s been specifically setup and designed for one-on-one coaching with a focus on mothers and their health. For now, you’re welcome to read more about how I can help you as an Integrative Health Coach here:

What is a Health Coach?

An Integrative Health Coach is a supportive mentor who helps guide their clients to make food and lifestyle changes to improve their health and wellbeing.

As a Certified Integrative Health Coach, I’ll encourage and guide you through these changes and help you feel better and live a more balanced lifestyle. My role is to motivate you to make better choices, to educate and support you in reaching your health goals by adjusting your lifestyle and habits and to guide you through these changes during our one-on-one sessions.

What makes Health Coaching so unique?

What’s beautiful about having the help of an Integrative Health Coach is our holistic support. There are so many things that influence our health and wellbeing: work, stress, what we eat, how we live, whom we love – it’s impossible to simply focus on only one thing.

During our sessions, not only will I offer guidance, but also accountability in all spheres of your life, from exercise and nutrition to your career and relationships. Our aim is your overall wellbeing and not just to focus on one aspect of your life.

Everyone’s different

At the heart of an Integrative Health Coach’s approach is a philosophy called “bio-individuality”, which means that every person is unique and that everyone’s physical, mental, emotional, nutritional and health needs are entirely different. Each person defines their own health differently and has a different way to reach their goals.

That’s why I’ve been trained to approach each client differently and to not apply a “one-size-fits-all” method. Our sessions are deeply personal and my guidance is inherently individual and unique.

It’s becoming a thing

Since our approach is holistic, more and more people have come to realise that working with an Integrative Health Coach is one of the most effective ways to improve their health. Not only are corporates and individuals recognising the importance of integrative health coaching, but so are doctors and healthcare professionals.
