Embrace winter with AfriCamps

A winter getaway has a special quality to it – cuddling up next to a fire, special wildlife experiences and red wine, of course. Who said you can’t enjoy the outdoors during these colder months?

Our family went “glamping” for the first time last winter and it was an experience we’ll never forget. We booked at AfriCamps Klein Karoo in Oudtshoorn and we’d definitely recommend it! They’re running a special this winter, so let me tell you about our experience and maybe you’d like to book a trip there for you and your family, too?

The Little Karoo is a very special place! Not only did we have a wonderful time together off the grid, but there were also plenty of activities in the surrounding area that we could really enjoy together as a family. The meerkat encounter safari, ostrich farm tour and Karoo game drive, all hosted by AfriCamps come highly recommended. Two other extraordinary experiences in the surrounding area that really stood out for us was the opportunity to walk with elephants at the Cango Wildlife Ranch and a visit to the world-famous Cango caves.

Our days were filled with many adventures and being able to relax around the fire watching the sunset was a wonderful way to spend time together. The simple pleasure of grilling marshmallows under the stars is a treat many of us city dwellers forget about way too easily.

We stayed in fully equipped tents that are perfect for those chilly winter nights. Think indoor fireplaces, electric blankets and heaters. For me though, the best part of our glamping experience was brewing a pot of fresh coffee on the stove on our stoep and sipping on a hot cup, overlooking the vast Karoo landscape. The peace and quiet you experience in that moment is priceless.
