As a mom, having a baby and setting yourself up with everything you might need for the new member of the family can be rather taxing. Who knows what your baby will like or dislike, do you need a camping cot or just a carrier, what about prams, baby seats and and and? It can get a bit overwhelming (and costly) if you start thinking about it, especially if your little one grows out of these “necessities” in just a matter of months.
That’s why I’m so excited to introduce you to a very unique, but wonderful business: Anew Leasing. They offer a selection of hand-picked baby products for you to “lease” for as long as you need them.
I interviewed the team to ask about everything you need to know about their lease offering:
TSM: What does Anew Leasing offer clients?
AL: We offer a selection of hand-picked baby products that are managed sustainably and ethically. Everything we lease is clean, safe and in good working order. Customers simply pick how long they’d need it for and we do the rest.
TSM: How does the process work?
AL: It’s really simply, these are the steps:
- Choose your products and your delivery date.
- Confirm your order.
- Receive your products at home.
- Return the products once you no longer need them.
All our items are checked and cleaned before they go to another family.
TSM: How do you ensure the quality of your products?
AL: Every item in our inventory goes through stringent safety checks and is sustainably cleaned with environmentally-friendly products. You will only get products that are as good as new.
We ensure the quality by having stringent quality requirements in place. If a product does not meet the minimum requirements, it is removed from our inventory and replaced. In addition, we do the following:
- Testing all products upon their return and confirming their safety using checklists developed by industry-leading professionals.
- Methodically checking all products for damage, staining and holes.
- Replacing worn parts where possible. This helps ensure that the product meets our quality standards, while still working toward our sustainability goals.
- Professionally deep cleaning products once they are returned. This is done using environmentally-friendly cleaning products that are both hypoallergenic and child-safe.
Plus, all our products have been vetted by parents, checked against industry safety standards and curated by us, according to the latest trends and aesthetics. We call it: “tried, tested and recommended”.
“At the end of it all, there’s one real test everything needs to pass – would we be happy using these products with our own children? If the answer is ‘no’ that product is taken out of circulation immediately.” – Nina Hanedoes, Founder Anew
TSM: Do you have any advice or tips for new parents?
AL: In the frenetic build-up to becoming a parent, information and advice comes at you thick and fast. Knowing what you should be paying attention to is difficult and before you know it, you’re overwhelmed.
That’s why we offer personalised advice to help you choose the right baby products for your family. Every family, home environment and child is unique and we can offer you sound, practical, educated advice that meets your needs and your budget, whether you’re looking for packaged or single leasing options. For example – many new parents love our all-in-one new-born package, which ensures you have all the essentials for the first few months.
TSM: How do you contribute to sustainability?
AL: Anew is the sustainable alternative to overconsumption. We source the best baby products (from prams to co-sleepers to car seats) and we lease them out. Our customers get the highest quality products for their children, while keeping costs down, and we get to help people provide their children with the very best while contributing to global sustainability and helping fight overconsumption. It’s a win-win.
TSM: What are all the product ranges that you have on offer?
AL: We have five product ranges: At Home, Feeding, On the Road, Sleeping and Travel. Our ranges focus on a product selection that is ideal for the first year with your baby or when you are going away for the weekend or longer (local) vacation. And again, it can all be a bit daunting. So, clients can contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org, we’ll advise you honestly and practically about the best products for your baby and your family.
TSM: What is the story behind Anew and its founders?
AL: Our story began when two moms-to-be, Nina and Lushinka, met at antenatal class. As we welcomed our daughters into our lives and compared notes, we both realised we were facing the same problem: As new parents we were overwhelmed with choice and a whole lot of unsolicited advice. It was incredibly difficult to know what products were best and as we all know – good quality baby products do not come cheap. On top of it all, as your child moves through development stages quickly you often only need something for a few weeks or months. We put our heads together and decided to find a better way.
And so, Anew was born – South Africa’s first premium baby product leasing service. We believe in fair pricing, sustainability and helping people make the right choices when it comes to baby products.
